Plain-English-ish summary
These Terms govern your use of SHOWBIZ and its websites, video, archives, apps, smoke-signal feeds, and any future distribution format not yet invented by Warner Bros. engineers or a coyote with a catalog.
1Acceptance of these Terms
By accessing SHOWBIZ, you agree to these Terms. Continuing to use the site after reading them counts as acceptance, even if you made the classic mistake of scrolling directly to the bottom looking for a hidden coupon code.
If you do not agree, you may discontinue use of the site. You may not express disagreement by dropping a piano on our legal department.
2Who may use SHOWBIZ
SHOWBIZ is available to humans, Toons, anthropomorphic animals, sentient household objects, extraterrestrial basketball talent, and other lawful persons capable of entering an agreement.
- Minors should use SHOWBIZ with the involvement of a parent, guardian, mentor, studio teacher or unusually responsible pig.
- Characters who are legally deceased may not open new subscription accounts unless resurrection is documented and generally accepted in their jurisdiction.
- One user, one identity. Wearing a fake mustache does not create a second legal person.
3Acceptable conduct
You may browse, link to, quote from and share SHOWBIZ in ordinary lawful ways. You may not:
- Scrape the site at a rate normally associated with woodpeckers, termites or industrial vacuum equipment.
- Bypass access controls using portable holes, shrinking rays, tunnels painted onto walls, backstage passes printed at home, or any device marketed as “guaranteed to fool a guard.”
- Introduce viruses, malware, spyware, dynamite, TNT, nitroglycerin, exploding cigars or suspiciously ticking packages.
- Impersonate SHOWBIZ, its reporters, editors, photographers or Dan Anchorman, including by standing behind a desk and saying “This just in” without authorization.
- Alter timestamps through time travel, alternate dimensions or chronological retconning.
- Use our site to harass, threaten or pursue another user with a mallet, frying pan, cannon, giant magnet or legal filing drafted in crayon.
4Our content
SHOWBIZ owns or licenses the journalism, design, graphics, databases and original site materials it publishes. You may make ordinary personal use of that material and share links. Commercial republication, systematic copying or selling framed screenshots in a gift shop requires permission.
Names, characters, clips, production stills and other third-party materials remain the property of their respective owners. Reporting about a studio, performer, league, company or cartoon character does not mean that entity owns, controls or endorses SHOWBIZ.
Artificial intelligence and digital replicas
You may not use SHOWBIZ content, reporter likenesses or newsroom voices to create a synthetic SHOWBIZ reporter, a fake interview, or a convincing digital Jay Sherman who endorses your product without permission. A computer saying “but it learned it” is not permission.
5Tips, letters and submissions
We welcome news tips, corrections and reader correspondence. By sending material, you represent that you have the right to send it and are not violating a court order, employment agreement, embargo or sacred studio curse.
We may review, verify, decline or report on information we receive. Sending a tip does not create an attorney-client, doctor-patient, detective-sidekick or confidential-source relationship unless a SHOWBIZ journalist expressly agrees to source protection.
6Accounts, subscriptions and payments
If SHOWBIZ offers accounts or paid subscriptions, you are responsible for accurate billing information and reasonable account security. Giant ceremonial checks, casino chips, Confederate money, Monopoly money and carrots are not legal tender unless the checkout page expressly says otherwise.
You are responsible for activity under your account unless you promptly report unauthorized access. “A duck did it” may be true, but we may ask follow-up questions.
7Advertising and third parties
SHOWBIZ may display advertising, sponsorships and links to third-party services. Ads do not determine newsroom coverage. A company buying a banner ad does not buy immunity from reporting, favorable reviews, investigative amnesia or a complimentary star rating.
Third-party products and services are governed by their own terms. SHOWBIZ is not responsible if an advertised rocket skate, dehydrated boulder, instant hole, home cloning kit or mail-order disguise performs differently from the illustration.
8Toon physics disclaimer
Some SHOWBIZ reporting concerns environments in which gravity, mortality, scale, elasticity, combustion and causation behave inconsistently. Nothing on this site is a guarantee that a technique depicted in entertainment can be safely reproduced in ordinary physical space.
If you walk off a cliff and do not fall until you look down, that remains between you and gravity.
Do not attempt stunts, explosions, safe-dropping, wall-running, train outracing, cannon travel, self-flattening, piano suspension or high-speed desert pursuit based on anything you read here.
9Disclaimers and limitation of liability
SHOWBIZ is provided on an “as available” basis. We work to publish accurate information, but breaking news changes, sources disagree, court records update, and occasionally somebody paints a tunnel where a tunnel was not previously located.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, SHOWBIZ is not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from ordinary use of the site, including missed auditions, spoiled premieres, failed schemes, damaged monocles, bruised egos or anvils purchased after reading a trend piece.
10Disputes and governing law
These Terms are governed by applicable law in California, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes should be brought in an appropriate court with jurisdiction in Los Angeles County unless applicable law requires otherwise.
The following are expressly not recognized dispute-resolution mechanisms: trial by combat, high-noon draw, pie fight, dance-off, rabbit-season/duck-season debate, cliff-edge staring contest, or “winner gets the studio.”
11Suspension and termination
We may restrict or terminate access when reasonably necessary to protect SHOWBIZ, our readers, our systems or other users. Serious abuse may result in a formal ban, an informal ban, or a large red stamp reading THAT’S ALL, FOLKS.
12Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as the site, law or known universe changes. Material changes will be reflected by a revised effective date. We will not secretly amend the Terms by writing new clauses on the back of a speeding road sign after you pass it.
13Contact
Questions about these Terms can be sent through the central SHOWBIZ contact page.
